CHONGWE RIVER CAMP

Dotted along the forested riverbanks, Time + Tide Chongwe Camp is surrounded by wild beauty. Set at the confluence of the Chongwe and Zambezi Rivers against a beautiful mountainous backdrop, the camp offers the best views of the Lower Zambezi.

A grove of towering winterthorn trees creates a shady haven for the camp below. Each tent offers panoramic views of the Chongwe River. Sit out front in comfortable lounge chairs and watch the abundant wildlife visiting the banks to drink and graze on the lush grasses.

Cotton linens, local textiles and handcrafted furniture blend seamlessly with organic fittings and fixtures, all designed to make the most of what Mother Nature has provided. The tents feature comfortable beds, ceiling fans, charging points and spacious, open-air bathrooms.

Chongwe’s two tented suites – the Albida Suite and Cassia Suite offer a completely private, butler-serviced accommodation and dining options.

Albida is a colonial-style tented suite sleeping four guests in two custom designed octagonal bedrooms with inter-leading pathways on either side of a private lounge area, complete with its own bar fridge, plunge pool and fire pit. It is ideal for families or friends travelling together.

Cassia Suite is ideal for guests requesting the exclusivity of a suite with privacy and is the quintessential romantic setting for honeymoon couples. Built in the same style and grandeur as Albida Suite, Cassia has an adjoining bathroom, featuring a Victorian-style ball and claw bathtub and intimate rainfall-style shower with a lounge and fully stocked bar alongside a private pool set at the edge of the river.

During your stay, enjoy an impressive variety of safari activities, created for the ultimate exploration of this magnificent African paradise. By land, you can enjoy game drives and walking safaris, or take to the rivers and explore with boat cruises, canoeing safaris and tiger-fishing. Back in camp, the wildlife hide is great for photography, especially rare nocturnal creatures

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Venturing to the remotest parts of the continent, Time + Tide’s family of safari properties spans Zambia and Madagascar. We offer a modern-day explorer the luxury of time and space and the chance to feel fully alive.

Original founders, Norman Carr and the Liebenberg family, are credited as leaders in responsible tourism. We have over 80 years of combined experience in the space. With the opening of Time + Tide Miavana, we honour these legacies by bringing the same ethos to Madagascar.

Across land and sea, our people take extraordinary care in sharing our deep appreciation for the land, wildlife and culture. We’ve pioneered a more grounded tourism experience, rooted in conservation and synonymous with Africa’s history of ecotourism and preservation. Stop. Look closer. Touch the Earth.
