Brief notes about South Luangwa National Park
For most visitors, South Luangwa National Park is by far the most practical park to visit in the valley. This is Zambia’s premier wildlife park, with superb wildlife and many excellent camps. This is where the now famous walking safaris started from over 60 years ago and this unique African destination retains some of the finest world-class safari guides.
There are many contenders for the title of Africa's best game park. The Serengeti, Amboseli, Ngorongoro Crater, Etosha, Kruger, Moremi and Mana Pools would certainly be high on the list. South Luangwa has a better claim than most. Some of these other areas will match its phenomenally high game densities. Many others – the lesser known of Africa's parks – will have equally few visitors. One or two also allow night drives, which open up a different, nocturnal world to view, allowing leopards to be commonly seen and even watched whilst hunting.
However, few have South Luangwa's high quality of guiding together with its remarkable wildlife spectacles, day and night, in the isolation of a true wilderness. These elements, perhaps, are how the contenders ought to be judged, and on these the South Luangwa Park comes out around the top of the list.
Day 3 to Day 6 - Chindeni Bush Camp
On this after breakfast you will be transfer mfuwe Lodge to Chindeni Bush Camp a sister Company for Mfuwe lodge you will drive through the beautiful south Luangwa National Park. You will arrive at Chindeni Bush Camp in time to have lunch
Summary about Chindeni Bush Camp:
A sublime tented camp on the edge of a permanent lagoon with the Chindeni Hills providing a truly breath-taking backdrop.
In an enviable location on the edge of a lagoon where hippo chortle and elephant wallow, stands Chindeni - undoubtedly one of the most beautiful tented camps in the South Luangwa.
There's something about sleeping under canvas that ignites a sense of adventure in everyone. At Chindeni you can combine that thrill with style and comfort in one of its four opulent tents. Gaze out from your private veranda onto the lagoon which attracts birds and animals from miles around. Or settle back with a gin-and-tonic in the central lounge and dining area - a glorious expanse of varnished decking arranged on several levels around the surrounding ebony trees, boasting, of course, the same spectacular view of the serene lagoon and its inhabitants.
Your stay at Chindeni Bush Camo will include;
Day 6 to Day 9 – Mukambi Safari Lodge
On this day you will be transferred to Mfuwe Airport in South Luangwa National Park. On arrival at Lusaka airport you will be met and welcomed by our representative who will help you with Luggage and transfer you from Lusaka airport to Mukambi Safari Lodge in Kafue National Park. This will be an adventurous road trip, passing through villages and most of it is in the bush, so there is a lot to see and since it will be the private transfer you will have the flexibility to stop along the way when you find something interesting.
Mukambi Safari Lodge in Kafue National Park
Commonly known as “The Gateway to The Kafue National Park”, Mukambi Safari Lodge is centrally located in the park, right on the banks of the stunning Kafue River. The Kafue National Park is one of the largest national parks in Africa (roughly the size of Wales at more than 22,000km²).
The Lodge has 8 comfortable en-suite chalets for 2 persons of which one a family unit (4 persons) with en suite bathroom (rondavel type), 24hrs electricity and hot water. Chalets come with either one queen size double bed or 2 single beds with cotton sheets, duvet (extra blankets available) and mosquito nets. Bathroom comes with shower, toilet, basin and mirror. Outside terrace with chairs and side table are also available.
The main area houses a bar, restaurant and Wi-Fi. There is also a swimming pool in the area and several decks which overlook the Kafue River.
Day 9 to Day 12 – Chongwe River Camp
At some stage on this day, you will transfer from Mukambi Safari Lodge in Kafue National Park to Lusaka Airport to Catch your flight from Lusaka to Royal Airstrip in Lower Zambezi.
Here you will spend 2 Nights and then on your final day you will fly from Lower Zambezi to Livingstone Airport via Lusaka.
Chongwe River Camp, Lower Zambezi National Park
Set on the western bank of the Chongwe River, which acts as the boundary to the National park this is a wonderful camp. Its location on the smaller tributary just a few hundred meters up from the confluence with the main Zambezi River adds to its attraction. We feel the location also it adds a certain amount of intimacy to the camp to be able to see the other side of the Chongwe which at this point is probably just 50mts across as opposed to being on the main course of the Zambezi River which is really a very large and on occasions quite daunting river.
There are 8 standard tents spread along the bank of the river, which are modest when compared with some other tented camps but comfortable none the less with outside bathrooms behind. The cost of this camp is one of its most attractive features, because most of the camps in the Park or its immediate environs have steadily increased their rates over the years making the Lower Zambezi an expensive destination. Chongwe and a couple of its neighbours however bring this wonderful destination within the grasp of some guests that may otherwise not have afforded to see the area.
There are two suites at Chongwe, the Albida suite with 2 rooms and the Acacia Suite with just 1 room, which are priced a little more expensively but they really are quite stunning suites on a par with anything you will find throughout Zambia.
